Located on a 2.7 acre site between W. 5th and W. 6th streets, 1111 is directly adjacent to downtown Austin. The plan emphasizes a strong connection to the 6th street corridor. At the heart of this connection is the ground floor lobby which previously served as an open-air parking sitting atop a precast parking garage. The existing structure was retained and reskinned with full height glazing to allow daylight to saturate the deep floorplates. The interior transformation promotes a healthy work environment through natural lighting and by addressing COVID concerns such as automation and updated mechanical systems. Most importantly, the project has given a second chance to a dated building, breathing new life into its bones.
