Hyatt Centric
Austin

Tightly fit on a site area of less than 7,000 sf, The Hyatt Centric - Austin features 246 guest rooms; including a 1,400 sf presidential suite, a 5,000 sf ground-level restaurant, a rooftop lobby bar and terrace, and 6,000 sf of office space across 32 floors. The design of the tower was heavily influenced by site constraints and the contextual relationships of the historic block and adjacent theaters. A lifted and recessed base allows the historic fabric to stand out against a restrained architectural form and expression of fritted glazing. The openings and materiality of the tower corresponds to the buildings solar orientation. White metal panels wrap the south, east, and west facades with a 55% open expression to reduce solar gains, while the north was made 95% open, where solar exposure is much less frequent. The fenestrations are scaled and proportioned similar to the tall narrow openings of the historic buildings surrounding the site. Undeniably modern and new, the building stands out from near and distant vantage points within the downtown area.
